Franco Maggio Ormezowski, cellist with an extraordinary sound and an impeccable technique, was born in Italy of a Polish mother and began to play the cello at a very young age, obtaining his diploma from the Istituto Boccherini of Lucca and then attending courses of advanced specialization with Gaspar Cassadò and Andrè Navarra at the Accademia Musicale of Siena.

After winning first prize in the National Competition for young concert performers of the Santa Cecilia National Music Academy of Rome at the age of 14, his career has been an uninterrupted series of extraordinary successes. He has participated in the Festivals of Spoleto, Athens, Beirut, Plovdiv, in the Spanish celebrations commemorating the 150 years since Boccherini’s death and those held in Caracas in homage to Casals.

He has given concerts (and masterclasses) in Paris, London, Madrid, Vienna, Hamburg, Brussels, Moscow, Warsaw, in the United States, Canada and South America, collaborating with conductors like Wolfgang Sawallisch, Leonard Bernstein, Lawrence Foster, Franco Caracciolo, Ferruccio Scaglia, Aldo Ceccato and pianists such as Martha Argerich, Tamàs Vàsary, Jean Bernard Pommier, Daniel Levy, Alexandre Rabinovitch, Alexandre Hintchev, etc.

He has played with violinist Salvatore Accardo and is now playing in a quartet (and as soloist) with Uto Ughi. He has given concerts for the French TV, the BBC of London, the Italian RAI as well as for other countries’ broadcasters. Franco Maggio Ormezowski has recorded for the labels Dynamic of Genoa, A.D.E.S. and Erato of Paris.
